The current edition is published in Australia as AS 4801:2001.

The requirements closely follow the guidelines set out in AS 4804:2001, which is used for internal and voluntary management systems.

Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004: This Act is the cornerstone of legislative and administrative measures to consistently improve occupational health and safety.

It sets out key principles, duties, and rights in relation to OHS. This Act covers a very wide set of circumstances, does not readily date and provide considerable flexibility for a duty holder to decide what needs to be done to comply.

Occupational Health and Safety Regulations 2007: These regulations are made under the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004.

They go into detail the specific ways duties as detailed in the Act are supposed to be performed. It covers procedural and administerial matters to support the Act, such as acquiring licenses, record keeping, and correct incident reporting.
